Army soldiers retrieved the body of abducted soldier in Maguindanao


DATU UNSAY, Maguindanao- Soldiers who were sent on a search and retrieval mission have found the decomposing body of Sgt Sonny Estabillo who was shot and killed by Moro rebels on Monday morning  (August 5).

Lt Col Bernie Langub, the Commanding Officer of the 38th Infantry Battalion, said that he sent a platoon of his soldiers to locate the cadaver of his subordinate who was abducted by lawless elements belonging to the Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Movement.


He said that the corpse was found a few steps along the road in Iganampong village here at around 9:00am today.


The victim sustained gunshot wounds all over his body which caused his death.


He was still wearing his crash helmet when he was found by the search party of the Army and the local police.


It can be recalled that Estabillo was snatched by gunmen who attacked the military detachments in Maguindanao on Monday.


In the wee hours on Monday (Aug 6), he left his duty station in Isulan, Sultan Kudarat on board a motorcycle to settle family matters in Cotabato City.


He was among the three soldiers who were caught by the rebels while traversing the Isulan-Cotabato road during that day. 


The bodies of the two other soldiers from the 68th Infantry Battalion were already recovered two days ago.


Sporadic clashes around three towns in Maguindanao are still ongoing as of today.
