Top ranking NPA leader captured, 2 rebels killed in Iriga

 
 
 
IRIGA CITY– A top ranking NPA leader was captured while two other rebels were killed after a clash with a platoon of soldiers from the 42nd Infantry Battalion in the outskirts of  Barangays of Sta Isabel and Brgy San Vicente Norte of this city  on Wednesday (Sep 5) at 4:29pm.
 
Major Angelo Guzman, the Spokesman of the 9th Infantry Division said that the soldiers engaged the rebels in a brief firefight lasting about 5 minutes.
 
Two rebels lay dead after the clash and another was captured after being cornered by the soldiers. Two semi-automatic pistols were seized from their posssession.
 
Guzman identified the captured bandit as a ranking communist leader named Edgardo Sevilla.
 
He said that Sevilla is facing a string of  criminal cases before the local courts for various crimes.

"Sevilla has a warrant of arrest for murder with no bail issued by the RTC 5th Judicial Region Branch 13 in Ligao City. He is also facing 6 other criminal cases of murder, and another three cases  for attempted murder and one for frustrated murder," he said.
 
A native of Libon town in Albay, Sevilla is said to be  the Finance Officer in the Executive Committee of the rebel organization in the said province.
