Scout Rangers seize highpowered firearms from NPA bandits in Davao

FORT BONIFACIO, Taguig City –Elite troops of the 15th Scout Ranger Company seized 3 high-powered firearms after a clash with NPA rebels late afternoon Saturday (Aug 18), in the remote village of Malabog, Paquibato District, Davao City.

The 15-man Scout Ranger patrol was scouring the area when they encountered more or less 20 heavily armed NPA rebels.

A 20-minute firefight ensued between the two groups, forcing the rebels to flee with their dead companions, leaving behind one M16, one M4 carbine, one M14 rifles, combat pack and other subversive documents.

No one among the soldiers was hurt in the said clash. The soldiers reported that more rebels were injured based on the bloodstains found in the clash site.

The soldiers receive a tip-off from the civilian resident about the presence of some 20 NPA bandits in that village, claiming that the bandits were in the area to extort money from them.

Army spokesperson Major Harold Cabunoc said, "Under the spirit of Bayanihan, we would like to thank the civilian informants who courageously provided our soldiers vital information about the rebels’ criminal activities”.

“I hope the rest of the bandits will consider abandoning their armed struggle and start working with us in our drive to end the communist insurgency. It is only by means of Bayanihan that we can achieve our goal of attaining economic prosperity for all,” he said.
