Navy chopper lands in Donsol coastline, 5 passengers unhurt

A Philippine Navy MBB BO 105 chopper which was deployed for aerial reconnaissance during the search and rescue operations in Masbate, performed 'precautionary landing' along the coastline of Donsol town here at around 10:00 am today.

A report from the  Philippine Navy's NAVFORSOL based in Legaspi City, said that the chopper was involved in the search and rescue operations to locate DILG Secretary Robredo. It had 4 crew members and a photographer working for GMA7.

Coming from an aerial reconnaissance in the crash site of Sec Robredo's ill-fated Piper Seneca plane, the chopper had a slight engine trouble, forcing the pilots to perform 'precautionary landing' in the shorelines of Buenavista village of Donsol town.

No one was injured in the incident and the ongoing retrieval operations for the two pilots of the Piper Seneca plane went unhampered in the vicinity of the crash site. The plane was found about 180-ft beneath the sea, about 800 meters off the coastline.

Combined elements of the Navy and the Army had already dispatched rescue personnel to assist the passengers of the Navy helicopter.

Lt Col Teody Toribio, the Commanding Officer of the 31st Infantry Battalion said that he immediately sent a rescue team from his unit upon learning of the incident from a local villager.
