CAGAYAN VALLEY – Two NPA rebels were killed in an encounter with Army soldiers yesterday, March 20, in Sitio Bagubuan, Bgry. Aridowen, Sta. Teresita, Cagayan, a military report said.
A squad of soldiers led by TSg Malanio R Barangay of “B” Coy 17th Infantry Batallion was conducting security patrols in the area when they clashed with an undetermined number of NPA bandits at 8:45 p.m.
Two unidentified rebels perished after the 10-minute clash. No one was injured among the soldiers who confiscated two M16 Armalite rifles from the dead rebels.
The dead rebels were brought to the local officials for proper disposition. More soldiers were sent to carry out joint manhunt operations in coordination with the local police.
Military authorities in Northern Luzon have called on the NPA rebels to peacefully abandon their armed struggle and be one with the Army in bringing our nation to peace and development.
