Bandits attack a convoy of fishing boats, 15 people killed

FORT BONIFACIO, Taguig City--Fifteen people perished in an off-shore attack perpetrated by unidentified assailants in Basilan province early morning yesterday (Monday), a military report said.

A convoy of three fishing boats carrying 18 fishermen, was venturing off Sibago island in Mohamad Ajul town when the shooting happened at around 7:00 am (Jan 23).

Jerome Lunsol, 22, survived the attack and was  brought by his rescuers  to Zamboanga General Hospital in Zamboang City where he was treated for his head wound. He said that the attackers were on board three 'pakuras' (2-man motorized banca).

The motive of the shooting attack is yet to be known.

A joint manhunt pursuit operation was immediately launched by both the military and police units in the area.
