Ang Bisayang sundalong si Private Boloy ay likas na palabati. Ang problema lang sa kanya ay pilipit ang dila pag mag-Tagalog.
Sya ay die-hard Bisdak (Bisayang Dako), ika nga sa mga promding Cebuano na kagaya niya.
Isang araw nakita nya si Sergeant Bruno na nagsasanay ng tricks sa kanyang asong German Shepherd.
Namangha si Boloy na tila panay asong pinoy (Aspin) lang ang nakita sa kanilang probinsya. Agad syang lumapit sa kanyang senior.
"Ang gandang aso si Sir! Girman Shipird pa!" (Ang ganda ng aso ni Sir, German Shepherd pa!)

Nainis si Sergeant Bruno sa narinig nya. Natagurian sya ng isang Private na mukhang aso!
"Gardimit ikaw Praybit Boloy, mag-push up ka nga ng 1,000 repetitions!"

Nagtaka si Boloy bakit sya naparusahan ngunit sumunod din naman sa inutos. Grabe na ang pawis nya at minabuti nyang magmakaawa sa galit nang si Bruno.
"Sir, kawawa ka sa akin sir! Pinawisan na ako ng maraming singot sir!" (Sir, maawa ka naman sa akin, pinagpapawisan na ako nang marami!)
"Sir, kawawa ka sa akin sir! Pinawisan na ako ng maraming singot sir!" (Sir, maawa ka naman sa akin, pinagpapawisan na ako nang marami!)
Lalong nainis si Bruno sa hirit ni Boloy. Nanlilisik na ang mga mata at namumula ang mukha.
"Gardimit ka uli damuho! Ako pa ang kawawa sayo! Additional 1,000 push ups!"

With all due respect sir, I find your blog entertaining. But this isn't funny at all. It presents racism, At most, racism to your kind. Which is sad.
ReplyDeleteFor the record, I'm a proud Bisaya. You might want to keep these posts on your draft, it's no Bayanihan. It's cruelty.
Try this joke with our Muslim brothers, I know they have a different accent. But it is surely not a way to belittle people.

As it is said, jokes are 'half meant'. If you're with Visayan soldiers, you will realize that they are the originators of jokes like this. Soldiers practically make fun of every situation to entertain themselves in the frontlines.
Visayans like me are often called Bisdak or "gahig dila" once our distinct accent is heard.
I havent met a Visayan soldier who was offended by this kind of jokes.
If you look at it closely, the story also delivers a message that Visayans should not be misconstrued for their inability to express themselves clearly in Tagalog. Officers should be professional enough to know their men closely and treat them fairly.
Kanya-kanyang paningin lang yan. If Im afraid of any criticism, I end up keeping my compiled stories all for myself and my fellow soldiers.

ReplyDeleteThanks for respecting my opinion. But for this matter, I am a Bisaya civilian and not a Bisaya-soldier who finds this story amusing. Like you said, we view things differently. I probably view it as a Bisaya, living as a civilian.
I just feel that there are some jokes not catered to the civilian-ordinary people like me. O baka naman nagsawa na ako sa mga ganitong jokes at di ko na nakuhang' tumawa. Of which I am sick of hearing because it sweeps generalizations na ganyan ang mga bisaya kung magsalita. Parang sinabi na rin na ang Maguindanao ay ang Mindanao.
Probably I just got carried away yet I smiled when you said "Officers should be professional enough to know their men closely and treat them fairly."
Anyway, I feel the goodness of this blog. I thank, you the author, for laying your personal life into it. It's nice to actually hear something fresh.
I got no qualms other than this post.
