Two soldiers are killed today, 3 others wounded

There are two soldiers who have offered the ultimate sacrifice in the service of the country in two separate clashes today (August 15).

They died fighting the insurgents who insist in disturbing the peace in our hinterland villages in Southern Philippines.

The first clash  erupted at around 8:30am,  between the 20th Special Forces Company and the bandits led by Abu Kik in Pamatsaken village, Sumisip town Basilan,  killing an SF trooper. Three other soldiers were wounded in the fighting.

The soldiers were conducting security operations in the area of Baiwas village when they chanced upon about 30 Abu Sayyaf bandits, triggering a fierce firefight.

The bandits disappeared in the forest, carrying with them their casualties when more soldiers came to reinforce the engaged troops.

At around 3:30pm, another clash occurred in Zamboanga peninsula between Army soldiers and communist rebels.

The encounter site was in Compostela village, Buug town in Zamboanga Sibugay.

A soldier was killed after sustaining gunshot wounds in the firefight. Pursuit operations have been launched by the unit against the fleeing communist bandits.

The identities of the casualties could not be provided as of this moment as per Army protocol.
