I had the opportunity to serve as the Operations Officer and later, Team Site Leader of the 34-man United Nations Military Observers in Bentiu, Unity State, Southern Sudan in 2008. It was a memorable experience to work with soldier friends from other countries in a conflict are thousands of miles away from home.
